14 Nov. Parents’ Day

Parents’ Day on Wednesday 14th November. This is an excellent opportunity for you to meet with your child’s Teachers and discuss how your child has settled into all aspects of school life. Discussions will focus on the academic progress and pastoral development of your child, as well as their targets for moving forwards. There will also be an opportunity to meet with Tutors and House Masters. The registration window will close on Monday 12th November, following which appointments can be signed up for on the day should there be any space available. Haileybury Almaty will be closed to pupils during Parents’ Day, however we strongly encourage you to bring your child to all arranged appointments. Pupils are expected to wear full school uniform. This shared experience is a valuable opportunity to celebrate your child’s achievements as well as support in their continued educational journey.

20 Nov. Anger Management Strategies for Parenting

Presenter: Tebow, Director of Community Well- being We are only human and anger will happen for both parent and child. Sometimes Anger is present on a daily basis or displayed in such a manner that we find it concerning: be it others or be it us. Most of us do not know exactly what to do with our own anger, let alone the anger of another. We tend to escalate or extend the anger by; joining in the chaos of the anger trying to correct it perhaps ignore/avoid it find a distraction from it appease it or medicate it However, none of these lead to a healthier relationship or to reduce the source of the anger. In this seminar we will look at the source of anger and how you can help your child better cope with and resolve anger effectively so that, he or she can move forward rather than getting trapped in a cycle of unresolved angry events.

Time 15:00 | Presenter: Tebow, Director of Community Well- being In this seminar we will look at recent findings around sleep deficits in pupil populations and to the resulting health and development delays that can occur in these deficits. We will discuss all the factors that create quality sleep for your child and the stress that is seen when sleep is inadequate. The optimal sleep cycle that will best serve your child and his or her goals will be revealed. We will reveal how to help your child move into the healthier patterns that will allow for the greatest opportunity to thrive both academically and socially.

27 Nov. TRANSITIONS: Preparing your child to leave home for University

Time 18:00 | Presenter: Tebow, Director of Community Well- being This seminar will reflect on the journey of having brought your child this far in their educational career: then looking to the journey that lies ahead. We will identify ways to prepare both you and your child for the changes that lay ahead. We will explore the design of the new shape of your role in parenting as well as the independence your child needs, to be prepared to take on life as a successful university student. In addition, we will discuss issues of how to prepare your child for the role they will play in managing the resources of finances, learning, time, social currency and self. We will examine parenting fears around your child’s new freedom in the choices they make and the results of those choices. Further, we will look at effective strategies of support for your child as they live at a distance, complete their stages of differentiation and create an independence that will reshape the way you and your child will communicate. The goal of this seminar to help both parent and child transition successfully into all that university life brings, as well as to build a healthy Adult- Child/ Parent relationship

We will have time for you to reflect and consider how you use one or all in your parenting. We will look at ways to move into your strengths as a parent and how you can avoid falling into the trap of attempting to parent in ways that are not compatible with your strengths and how to be living into your strengths fully as a parent for an ever more enjoyable parenting experience.
