Early Years Education at Haileybury Almaty (EYC)

An outstanding centre with world-class facilities and a caring, educational environment for our youngest pupils to learn and grow in is opening soon!

The importance of early years education cannot be underestimated and at Haileybury Almaty we are developing a truly outstanding early years department for children aged 2-4 years before they move to our main campus to continue their early years education in reception classes.

Our Early Years Centre (EYC) offers a high-quality, caring educational environment for its pupils. We follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum with a ‘play-based' approach to learning and a strong emphasis on teaching care and concern for others, respect for cultural diversity and for ourselves. The EYFS Curriculum supports our own philosophy that children learn through active involvement with their environment.

The EYC includes Pre Nursery (ages 2-3 years) Nursery (ages 3 to 4) and then on our main campus Reception (ages 4 to 5).

Our EYC is very well resourced, though the most important aspect of any school is of course the staff. Our high-quality, well trained, caring and experienced EYC team ensure that our children are happy, successful and thriving.

In addition to large classrooms and play areas, the EYC has separate playgrounds and dedicated areas for the different age groups, a soft play area, a Music room, dining room, Kazakh Studies room, adventure playground equipment and outdoor classroom spaces. We also have a full-time nurse.  All classes have appropriate access to modern technology.

Curriculum Areas of Learning and Development Explained

Communication and Language Development giving children opportunities to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves, and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Physical Development providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; developing their coordination, control, and movement, and understanding of the importance of physical activity, and healthy food choices.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; forming positive relationships and developing respect for others; developing social skills and learning how to manage their feelings; understanding appropriate behaviour in groups; and having confidence in their own abilities.

Literacy Development encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. We have a very successful phonics and early reading programme which ensures that almost all of our students are confident in reading by the end of their time in the EYC. We run workshops to help our parents support children at home.

Mathematics providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; describing shapes, spaces, and measures. Staff at Haileybury Almaty are trained to use the UK’s excellent Numicon resource for numeracy. Numicon offers a quality first teaching approach, designed to give children the understanding of number ideas and number relationships that are essential for success in Maths. It encourages a very hands-on approach to learning Maths.

Understanding the World guiding children to make sense of their physical world through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment. We use specialist Computing teachers to support teaching in this area.

Expressive Arts and Design enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as encouraging them to share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in Art, Music, Movement, Dance, and Role Play, We use specialist teachers to enrich Music and Movement.
