A very limited number of vacant places remain in our Reception Class for children aged 4 for the current academic year 2018-2019.

In accordance with the British system, the Reception class introduces children to the idea of formal schooling through the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. This curriculum prioritises the Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language of pupils. Pupils learn to play, explore, create and think critically through active learning experiences.

Lower School in Almaty (ages 5 -11)

British independent school in Haileybury Almaty

Welcome to Haileybury Almaty Lower School where our Haileybury curriculum includes best practice from the British National Curriculum, the Primary Years Programme and international curricula to challenge each and every pupil. We provide a broad curriculum which includes English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Computing, and PSHE taught by the class teacher. In addition pupils are taught by specialist teachers in P.E, Music, Art and Kazakh,  and their first language.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the Haileybury Habits of being Inquisitive, Reflective, Resourceful, Courageous, Organised and Resilient. These "Habits" underpin the knowledge of what the pupils learn by ensuring they develop life-long learning skills. Curriculum maps are available on each year group page, explaining the objectives covered during each term.

All lessons at Haileybury Almaty are taught in English, with the exception of Kazakh and modern foreign languages. Pupils are supported in their acquisition of English from the moment they join the school in the reception class, where the curriculum is designed to allow pupils maximum opportunities to communicate effectively in English as well as their first language.

Throughout the Lower School we also have extra support from additional teachers to provide specific language interventions. Our curriculum is strengthened by the inclusion of many curriculum enrichment events such as Poetry Week, Book Week, Mad Maths Morning, Science Week and Humanities Day — to name a few! These events provide opportunities for the pupils to apply their learning beyond the classroom in a fun and engaging way.

Reception Class (ages 4-5)

The Reception Class follows the English Foundation Stage Curriculum. The curriculum prioritises the development of the whole child through targeted teaching and areas of continuous provision. The key areas of development are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. At this age pupils are provided with a range of fun learning experiences which are based on the child’s own interests and current levels of development. Our excellent staff to pupil ratio allows us to know the individual needs of each child and provide not only a caring and nurturing environment but also one in which they can develop their level of English and also develop a love of school. Sometimes Anger is present on a daily basis or displayed in such a manner that we find it concerning: be it others or be it us. Most of us do not know exactly what to do with our own anger, let alone the anger of another. We tend to escalate or extend the anger by; joining in the chaos of the anger trying to correct it perhaps ignore/avoid it find a distraction from it appease it or medicate it However, none of these lead to a healthier relationship or to reduce the source of the anger. In this seminar we will look at the source of anger and how you can help your child better cope with and resolve anger effectively so that, he or she can move forward rather than getting trapped in a cycle of unresolved angry events.
