Welcome to the English Academy at Haileybury Kazakhstan. This is a new initiative designed for pupils who need intensive English language support when they join the school. The goal is to prepare them to learn in mainstream classes as quickly as possible. The English Academy allows them to be full members of our school community and take part in school life whilst benefitting from an individual programme of study.
Specialist teachers enable pupils to improve their English language skills quickly and adjust to learning in English. Pupils in the English Academy also benefit from a phased introduction to the British national curriculum, enabling them to adapt to life and learning at Haileybury Almaty or Haileybury Astana with confidence. In addition, the English Academy provides ongoing support, homework help, and in-class assistance to all pupils until they can study independently.
Upon enrolment to the English Academy, pupils will be assessed to ensure that our programme is tailored to their specific needs and placed in a class appropriate to their age. Learners will be paired with a pupil ‘buddy’ to support their induction and build confidence. English Academy pupils are expected and encouraged to participate in whole-class initiatives alongside their peers in the supportive, inclusive learning environment at Haileybury Almaty and Haileybury Astana.
The English Academy at Haileybury Kazakhstan is aimed at pupils entering Key Stages 2 and 3. Children learn in small groups, as well as whole class immersion and have opportunities for one-to-one lessons. In class, our pupils are supported by EAL specialists, ensuring that lessons are enjoyable and accessible to our English Academy learners.
Our English Academy offers personalised and uniquely flexible learning programmes based on the individual needs and progress of every pupil. In addition, the English Academy employs a blended learning programme offering a combination of traditional teaching methods alongside state-of-the-art, technology-based lessons, encouraging pupils to develop independent learning skills.
When our learners have made sufficient progress, they are supported in their move to mainstream classes. Each pupil’s transition is planned on an individual basis to ensure that pupils are well-prepared for the demands of learning in English.
