Welcome to the Kingdom of Kazakh Fairy Tales

A long time ago, some animals wanted to lend their names to the years, but they could not agree which one would be the first year. The little mouse suggested, ‘The one that sees the sunrise first will be the name of the first year’. The 12 animals all agreed, however not all of them could wait for the sunrise. So they danced and sang and waited for the dawn. Eventually they could not wait any longer and fell asleep. Finally, the little mouse climbed up to the camel’s head and was the first to see the sunrise.
This story relates to the beginning of the Kazakh New Year ‘Nauryz’. Please accept our warmest seasonal greetings on Nauryz for which Year 4 would like to give a short performance as their special offering!

Happy Nauryz!
