On Friday, October 27th, 22 students and 3 teachers flew to the Pattana Sports Resort in Bangkok, Thailand to participate in the FOBISIA Games.
The event spanned over three days and our students competed against five schools from Southeast Asia in Football, Basketball, Swimming, and Athletics. Our students trained regularly in all four disciplines and had been preparing intensely before the tournament, including competitive participation in the local COASH football league.
To prepare for the games, the students went on a trip to Thailand's largest water park. It was great to see the team spirit being developed as they went on various rides and vertical drop water slides!
Haileybury competed against teams from Malaysia, including Prince of Wales International School, St. Josephs, Kolej Tuanku Jaafar, King's School Bangkok, and The International School of Brunei.
Over the three days, our boys and girls teams combined in Athletics and Swimming came first and second, respectively. Many of our athletes won individual Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, and many of our students also set new personal bests and school records.
In football, our boys and girls both finished in second place. The girls drew a game which, had they won, would have put them in first place. Likewise, the boys were unlucky not to win the tournament as one draw and one loss dented their title hopes by one point.
In basketball, the boys won all five games to become champions, and the girls finished in fifth place.
This trip was Haileybury Almaty's most successful tour to date, and we look forward to returning to Thailand in May with our U11 athletes.
