On May 10th, 22 eager students from Years 5 and 6, accompanied by three dedicated teachers, embarked on an exciting journey to Thailand to participate in the FOBISIA Games.
This prestigious event brings together British international schools from across Southeast Asia to compete in a range of sports, including Athletics, Swimming, T-Ball, and Football.
Our team, after weeks of intense preparation during the winter, was ready to face off against some of the best schools in the region, including North London Collegiate School, Singapore, Henry VIII College, Malaysia, The British International School, Puxi, Regents Bangkok, and Hua Hin International School, Thailand.
Day 1: Arrival and Athletics & Swimming
Upon arriving at the Pattana Sports Resort on Saturday morning, our team had just 24 hours to acclimate before diving into the Athletics and Swimming events. Despite the hot and humid conditions, our young athletes demonstrated remarkable resilience and spirit. Competing in up to 10 events across these two sports, they showcased their skills and determination.
Day 2: T-Ball
The second day saw our students take to the field for T-Ball. Both the A and B teams displayed significant improvement, a testament to their hard work and teamwork. The competitive atmosphere pushed our athletes to their limits, preparing them well for the upcoming Almaty Games.
Day 3: Football
On the final day, our boys and girls teams took on the Football challenge. Despite finishing 6th in both categories, their performance was commendable given the high standard of competition. The experience gained from this event will undoubtedly contribute to their future successes.
Results and Reflections
The overall results saw our team placing 4th in Athletics, Swimming, and T-Ball, and 6th in Football. Despite finishing in the lower positions, there were numerous individual successes in Athletics and Swimming, with our team narrowly missing out on 3rd place in the Swimming by just 5 points. The experience and skills gained during this competition were invaluable and have set a solid foundation for the upcoming Almaty Games scheduled for the weekend of May 25-26.
A Message of Pride
We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, sportsmanship, and the positive attitude they displayed throughout the FOBISIA Games. Their hard work and perseverance are a true reflection of the spirit of Haileybury Almaty. We look forward to seeing them continue to excel and build on their experiences in future competitions.
