Our students recently embarked on an exciting journey to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to compete in the FOBISIA Secondary Maths Competition 2025.
Accompanied by Miss Onglassyn and Mr Nodes, the team faced a series of challenging rounds that tested their problem-solving skills, teamwork, and mathematical agility.
Competition Highlights
The competition featured several intense rounds, each pushing our students to think critically and creatively:
🔹 Dragon Maths Round – A fast-paced event where quick thinking was key! The round ended in a nail-biting sprint finish for Gagyeong, highlighting the energy and intensity of the competition.
🔹 Carousel of Activities – A battle of strategy and precision, where Maria’s team thrived, showcasing their competitive edge.
🔹 Code Breaking Round – Universally recognised as the most challenging segment, this round put our problem-solving abilities to the test. Our students have already set a goal to dedicate more time to preparing for this next year!
Exploring Kuala Lumpur
Beyond the competition, the students had the chance to explore some of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic landmarks:
🌟 Batu Caves & Hindu Temple – A climb of 272 steps was the perfect wake-up call after a night of travelling! The vibrant surroundings and cheeky monkeys kept everyone entertained.
🌟 KL Tower Sky Deck – Standing 421 metres high, the glass floor was a true test of courage. Despite initial nerves, every student conquered their fear and stepped out for a breathtaking photo opportunity.
Looking Ahead
This experience was more than just a competition—it was a journey of learning, perseverance, and adventure. Our students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a passion for mathematics that will undoubtedly prepare them for future challenges.
With an unforgettable trip behind them, they are already looking forward to next year’s FOBISIA Maths Competition. Congratulations to our team for representing Haileybury Almaty with excellence and enthusiasm!
