This August, Haileybury Almaty proudly hosted a transformative University Boot Camp, an intensive two-day programme aimed at preparing our Year 12 and Year 13 students for the challenges of the university application process.
Held on August 22-23, 2024, this event was a unique opportunity for students to learn directly from alumni mentors who have successfully navigated the path to some of the world’s most prestigious universities.
Mentorship from the Best
The boot camp featured insightful sessions led by alumni mentors who shared their journeys, tips, and personal experiences. We were honoured to have the following mentors:
- Alikseniia Martysheva (Harvard University)
- Alinur Sayat (UCLA)
- Sophia Shagirova (UCL)
- Alexey Dudarev (University of British Columbia)
- Guest Mentor: Alikhan Madibekov (Stanford University)
These mentors provided our students with invaluable advice, from writing compelling personal essays to acing interviews, and much more. Their stories, filled with determination and resilience, offered students a clear roadmap to success at top universities.
A Comprehensive Learning Experience
The two-day programme was thoughtfully structured to cover a wide range of topics. Day one focused on North American universities, with workshops on extracurricular activities, CV writing, and personal essays. Students also participated in group sessions covering university applications, finances, and creating university lists.
Day two shifted the focus to the UK, Europe, and Asia, with sessions on interview techniques, UCAS, Studielink, and motivation letters. The boot camp concluded with a certificate ceremony attended by proud parents, celebrating the achievements of our students.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our University Counsellors, Ms. Loper and Mr. Stockermans, whose dedication and expertise were instrumental in the success of this event. Their hard work in organising the boot camp ensured that our students received the highest quality guidance as they prepare for their future academic journeys.
