Qyzbolsyn App: Empowering Girls

At Haileybury Almaty, we take immense pride in the accomplishments of our students, and today, we are thrilled to spotlight a remarkable achievement by one of our Year 12 students, Zhaniya, who, alongside her peers, has turned their passion for social impact into a reality.

Together with Sabina, Zhansaya, and Makhabbat, she has helped develop Qyzbolsyn, an innovative mobile app designed to support and empower young girls in Kazakhstan.

What is Qyzbolsyn?

Qyzbolsyn, meaning “May It Be for Girls” in Kazakh, is more than just an app—it’s a lifeline for young girls seeking guidance, safety, and support. Tackling critical issues such as the lack of comprehensive sexual education and societal stigma around discussing personal safety, the app provides a safe and reliable space for girls to learn, grow, and connect.

The Vision Behind the App

The idea for Qyzbolsyn was born out of a shared desire to make a meaningful difference. The team was deeply moved by alarming statistics highlighting the challenges faced by young girls in Kazakhstan, including early pregnancies and a lack of access to trusted information. This inspired them to create a platform where every girl could feel supported, understood, and safe.

Key Features of Qyzbolsyn

• Informative Resources: The app offers carefully curated articles and podcasts on topics such as health, safety, and self-development. All content is available in Kazakh, Russian, and English to reach a diverse audience.

• Anonymous Community Forum: A moderated space where girls can ask questions and seek advice without fear of judgment.

• AI-Powered Virtual Friend: The app features “Saya,” an AI bot that provides practical advice, encouragement, and a listening ear—like having a trusted older sister in your pocket.

A Journey of Hard Work and Recognition

This inspiring project began as part of an international competition but quickly grew into a fully-fledged initiative. Through countless hours of research, development, and teamwork, these young innovators have brought Qyzbolsyn to life. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed:

• Technovation Semi-Finalists: Selected as one of the top projects from over 3,200 global submissions.

• Growing Community: Over 900 people have joined the Qyzbolsyn community, finding support and empowerment.

• First Investments: The team has already secured 2,000,000 KZT in funding through various competitions.

A Proud Moment for Haileybury Almaty

The success of Zhaniya, in her role as Team Lead, in collaboration with her peers, reflects the values we uphold at Haileybury Almaty—innovation, resilience, and a commitment to making a positive impact. Her leadership and dedication are a testament to the power of combining education with passion, and we are incredibly proud of how she is leading by example.

What’s Next for Qyzbolsyn?

The team has ambitious plans for the future. They aim to fully integrate the app into the Kazakh language and introduce gamified elements to make learning even more engaging. They are also partnering with local organisations, such as “NeMolchiKZ,” to provide practical tools and resources for girls in need.
