We are excited to introduce the Forest and Snow School, an initiative that leverages Kazakhstan's unique climate to teach students practical outdoor skills while fostering a deep respect for nature.
The Forest and Snow School program, designed for students from Creche to Year 6, is structured around the "FOREST" framework, representing Fellowship, Outdoor Awareness, Resilience, Exploration, Safety, and Thinking. Through engaging activities and collaborative projects, students develop essential life skills and connect meaningfully with the environment. The program culminates in a trekking and overnight camping experience at the end of Year 6, giving students a memorable opportunity to apply their skills.
Cross-Disciplinary Learning Opportunities
This program enriches learning across subjects:
- Science: Exploring ecosystems and studying weather patterns, snow, and ice.
- Mathematics: Practical applications such as measuring and mapping.
- Literacy: Reflective storytelling and writing based on outdoor experiences.
- Art: Nature-inspired projects that encourage creativity.
Safety as a Top Priority
In light of Kazakhstan’s extreme winter conditions, safety is our utmost priority. Our team conducts monthly reviews to ensure each activity is suited to current weather conditions, and we adhere to strict guidelines. Precautions include ensuring students wear insulated layers and safety gear, monitoring air quality and temperature, and adjusting activities when necessary. Tool safety and fire safety protocols are meticulously followed, with trained staff overseeing every session.
Haileybury Astana’s Forest and Snow School exemplifies our commitment to a holistic education that prepares students for future challenges while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the natural world. This transformative experience enriches their academic journey and nurtures a resilient, responsible mindset.
