STEAM at Haileybury Astana
S.T.E.A.M education is now popular around the globe and used as a teaching framework in schools worldwide. Students are encouraged to think creatively to invent solutions to problems, exploring and learn independently to achieve their project goals. Having the skills in these fields aids pupils in the future to implement knowledge in their careers.
Let’s remember previous S.T.E.A.M events in the 2021-2022 academic year.
Haileybury Astana focuses on developing S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) skills among pupils. We incorporate numerous cross-curricular activities into our lessons to emphasize and encourage collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity skills. Bringing S.T.E.A.M into the classroom allows the students to focus on transferable skills and the learning journey, not just the theory.
Since the previous academic year, S.T.E.A.M has been valued as a part of the school curriculum. Last year we organized several S.T.E.A.M and Science weeks, during which students actively participated in cross-curricular activities being carried out throughout the school, along with a variety of competitions.
On the 14th of May Haileybury Astana conducted for the first time the S.T.E.A.M Olympiad among pupils from all over Kazakhstan. They competed in design, leadership, teamwork, innovation and overall completion of the challenge. All participants of the Olympiad were awarded certificates of participation. Winners and awards were given diplomas and gifts.
This year we have a new S.T.E.A.M teacher - Mark Molyneux, joining our friendly team. He has 17 years of teaching experience, including five years in the United Arab Emirates as a poly design and engineering teacher. For this academic year, we have even bigger plans regarding S.T.E.A.M and cross-curricular activities.
